Our Story
NoviQuote began with a deeply personal experience. Nate Wishard, our founder and CEO, served honorably in the U.S. Army for 20 years, moving with his family every few years and repeatedly facing the challenge of finding trustworthy home service professionals in new communities.
In 2018, while stationed at a new location, Nate hired a flooring company recommended by his realtor. Soon after, his family experienced a traumatic incident: his wife walked in on a worker from the flooring company going through their belongings. When he saw her, he chased her from their home until she was able to safely lock herself and their kids in a vehicle outside. The stressful aftermath, including multiple court proceedings, only amplified the deep frustration of finding reliable, safe service providers.
Five years later, while completing his MBA at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, Nate faced yet another flooring project in a different home and the same frustrations resurfaced. Recognizing an undeniable problem with home service quoting, Nate envisioned a simple and safe way for homeowners to receive highly detailed quotes from multiple service providers in a streamlined way. His vision demanded accuracy, privacy, and security—without invasive home visits or spam.
Nate started interviewing hundreds of home service professionals and hundreds of property owners to validate his idea - not a single person disagreed with his vision and both parties showed excitement. From this powerful realization, NoviQuote was born. He chose the name NoviQuote, as “novi” is derived from Latin roots, specifically from the words “novus” or “nova”, serving as prefixes for innovate or innovative. Therefore, Novi translates to new, fresh, forward-thinking, unique and groundbreaking. As an alternate word to “nova”, Novi is a bright star that releases powerful energy. NoviQuote: The new, intelligent (iQ), and innovative way to request quotes.
Nate passionately developed the concept throughout his MBA program, refining the idea using rigorous entrepreneurial principles. Soon after, he assembled an extraordinary team of four others: two other 20-year Army Veterans and two geniuses with experience from META, Deloitte, and JP Morgan. The team then partnered with expert developers, all dedicated to solving this universal pain point.
